Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is the age requirement to tan?

A. You must be 18 years or older to tan without parental consent. 15-17 may tan with proper parental consent. Sunless/Magic Tan can be any age without parental consent.

Q. What should I wear in the tanning bed?

A. You can wear (or not wear) whatever you are most comfortable in since all the rooms are private.

Q.What is this tingle factor?

A. "tingle" is a stimulation of the epidermal layers of your skin. Most people feel their skin heat up or tingle after applying these lotions. The skin stimulation (irritation) brings blood closer to the surface of the skin. The blood brings melanin with it and you may receive a better tan. The tingle factors range from 1 to 10. The higher the number, the more intense the tingling. It is recommended you start with a tingle of 1 or 2 to become accustomed to the stimulation then gradually work up through the different levels.

Q. I just can't get any darker. What can I do?

A. Your skin actually becomes thicker as your tanning progresses and makes It difficult for UV light to penetrate the upper layers of skin. This is commonly referred to as a tanning "Plateau". Moisturizer is extremely important at this point. Your skin cells are standing up as much as 45°and are actually reflecting the UV rays. Using a lot of moisturizing lotion will help these cells lay down and become more translucent, therefore more receptive to UV rays.

Q. What can I do to tan my face & legs better?

A. Use a moisturizer at least twice daily. It's a fact that moist skin tans much better than dry skin Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize.

Q. Do I need to have protective eyewear?

A. Yes, it is required by Florida law because eyelids are not thick enough to protect your eyes from UV damage. The Tan Lounge offers FDA-approved eyewear for you to purchase or you can bring your own FDA-approved eyewear.

Q. How do I know the beds are clean?

A. We use FDA-approved cleaning solutions after every customer's tanning session. The solution is tested daily to ensure proper sanitizing properties exist.

Q. How long will it take to see results?

A. You should have a skin tone change after the first few tanning sessions. You should have a good base tan in 8-10 tanning sessions then one to three tanning sessions a week should maintain your tan in an entry level bed.

Q. I am new to tanning indoors... Are there some precautions I need to be aware of?

A. Yes!

  • Don't try to rush your tan. A tan should be obtained gradually.
  • Gradually increase your exposure times, 1 to 2 minutes at a time.
  • Consult your physician if you are taking any medication. Some medication can cause extra sensitivity to the UV light, causing overexposure.
  • Also consult your physician If you have any type of skin irritation or other condition.
  • Always wear protective eyewear!! Ultraviolet light will penetrate the eyelids.

Q. I am claustrophobic how can I tan?

A. The Tan Lounge offers the Magic King & Saturn stand up tanning beds with claustrophobia in mind. There is a large amount of people that do not like the tight spaces of most tanning beds. The Tan Lounge offers wide open units which relieves this worry. It also allows for great cooling and one great tanning experience!.

Q. How often do you change the bulbs in each bed?

A. We follow the manufacturer's guidelines for bulb replacement so that you will achieve the best results from your sessions. We typically change our bulbs when they have reached 80% of their capacity so your tan doesn't suffer from weaker UV rays.

Q. Can I tan and Sunless Tan the same day?

A. Yes, you can tan and use the UV tanning system the same day this gives you the benefit of both tanning processes. We recommend using the tanning bed prior to the uv-free magic tan session.

Q. I'm pregnant. Is it safe for me to tan?

A. Medical professionals do not know the affects of heat on the unborn child. We recommend you take advantage of our UV-Free Tanning System or Freeze Me program to temporarily suspend your tanning membership.

Q. Why is moisturized skin important for a tan?

A. Healthy, moist skin will tan quicker, get darker and keep its tanned appearance longer because the melanin is produced rapidly and the skin also will not exfoliate as quickly when it is properly moisturized.

Q. Why Should I Use An Upgrade Bed?

A. To get the best results, we recommend you always "Super Size IT" each time you tan. This means getting in the next Highest level bed each session. By Supersizing it, you force your cells to constantly release pigment.

Q. Will I Burn?

A. Burning is the enemy. Tanning is your skin's natural defense mechanism and protection against burning. Burning leads to photo damage, premature aging, sun-spots, drying, flaking and peeling of the skin, and should be avoided at all costs.
